WELLSPRING OF DUST

In a country like Saudi Arabia where natural oil deposits are shallow, the pressure of exiting oil creates these huge dust well-springs. These area must have been dug for oil in the past. But, because the pressure is so strong it must have been sealed back. The seal must not have been that good to hold back the pressure of oil rushing out from the ground causing the surface sand to be expelled like a fountain.
